News Clip

Cape Gerardo, Missouri is a nice little river town. Pat, the owner of a great spot called Cup & Cork called up a news crew when we stopped in for some breakfast. He liked our story so much that he wanted to help us spread the word! Click here for the news clip.

We met a couple of inspiring old warriors recently. Rolling into our planned camping spot, a nondescript sand bar, we noticed their kayaks and tents first. The second we landed, they welcomed us heartily to the site.

These guys are studs; they have kayaked all the way from chicago, and are going to New Orleans to work on Habitat for Humanity projects. not to mention, we had a great time swapping river stories.

Charm

The river now feels more like a superhighway of water than a natural greenway. Barges are king of the river here, causing us to clear from the channel up to a dozen times a day.

Southern Hospitality

After a record 70 mile paddle, we ended up in Memphis. Our contact, Kathy, welcomed us at the Mud Island boat ramp with some cold beers.

We enjoyed the comforts of home; but our time in Memphis was one of the best stops we had.

Kathy showed us around town, fed us some of the best local BBQ in Memphis, and restocked our rations. Our boat is the heaviest it's been all trip, but she'll lighten over the next 11 days.

We are on track to finish by the 28th, possibly sooner as we are currently 10 miles ahead of schedule.

A great rest, but the team is excited to see the end in sight.

Lady Luck

"we could only see your beards. We thought you were Amish"

I never thought I would be so happy for a little cloud cover. Despite drought conditions, the clouds have allowed us to make some pretty good time.

New Madrid-
At the recommendation from a group of fishing firemen, we visited a breakfast buffet in New Madrid, and were not disappointed. Great community.

Local News-
It was a pleasant surprise when a couple of lovely barge-repair secretaries declared that they had seen us on the news! We were interviewed by a tv news crew and a newspaper reporter in Cape Gerardeau; we will have the link up for the article soon. Stay tuned!
